Neuberger: Legal aid cuts pose 'risk' to justice access
Changes to legal aid pose a "serious risk" of denying poorer people access to justice, the president of the Supreme Court has claimed.
His comments were made before a judge halted a serious fraud trial involving defendants who could not get representation following cuts to legal aid.
Lord Neuberger told BBC Radio 5 live's Victoria Derbyshire that although cuts were inevitable, the system "could undoubtedly be improved."
The government said the reforms were necessary - though solicitors and barristers have taken industrial action in protest against them.
