Staff and bed shortages force maternity closures

Many hospital trusts in England had to close their maternity units to women in labour at least once last year because they were too busy.

A freedom of information request by the BBC suggests the pressures are slightly worse than six years ago.

Wales had similar problems, but no units in Scotland or Northern Ireland had to divert women in labour.
