'Whistle-blowing is crucial' - Margaret Hodge MP

The Commons Public Accounts Committee, headed by Labour MP Margaret Hodge, says whistle-blowers are often treated badly and more needs to be done to encourage the practice.

Its report called for whistle-blowers to be offered legal and counselling services and for "swift sanctions" to be imposed on staff who victimise them.

Ms Hodge said whistle-blowing was "crucial" and had to "matter right up to the top of an organisation."
