Councils stretched to limit to provide school places
The Local Government Association says the rising birth rate is creating so much demand for school places that council budgets cannot cope.
It says councils in England have had to meet a £1bn shortfall, and are cutting back on school repairs and building projects as a result.
Richard Cornelius the leader of Barnet Council said the number of school places had been very tight but it should be tight and they had managed it very carefully.
