Cameron 'embarrassed' by Queen 'purred' comment

The Prime Minister has said he will apologise to the Queen in person for making comments earlier this week about how she "purred" down the phone when he told her Scotland had rejected independence.

Mr Cameron has said he is "embarrassed" and "extremely sorry" for the remarks.

It is thought he will make his apology when he sees the Queen at the next of their weekly meetings.

Alex Forsyth reports.
