Fears for piers amid funding woes

Piers have been a much-loved feature of the British seaside since Victorian times, but many of the structures that dot the coastline face an uncertain future.

Some private owners are struggling to pay for their upkeep as, unlike councils, they cannot apply for money from the Heritage Lottery Fund to look after them.
