Shazia's story: The brides who end up as UK slaves
BBC Newsnight has spoken to women who came to the UK as wives but ended up enslaved by their British-born husbands and families.
Campaigners say such cases are just the tip of the iceberg, but there are believed to have been only two successful prosecutions.
One lawyer in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, who has helped numerous women escape violent homes, says many victims are discouraged from taking legal action by the police.
The police say victims can be confident they will do everything they can to protect them.
Newsnight special correspondent Katie Razzall spoke to Shazia - not her real name - about her years as a domestic slave. Her words are spoken by an actor.
