Fifty years of blooming Britain's community gardens
The British have long had a love of gardens, a fact that has been marked for the last 50 years by the Royal Horticultural Society's Britain in Bloom competition.
When the contest started, in 1964, it offered a colourful antidote to the grey concrete of post-war rebuilding.
Now, communities of all ages will come together tonight as the winning town is announced.
The BBC's John Maguire is in Bath, the first city to win the award, in 1964.
