Mixed welcome for police cautions pilot
The Police Federation of England and Wales has given a mixed welcome to government plans to scrap police cautions.
Paul Ford, from the Police Federation of England and Wales, told Today presenter Sarah Montague that "the resources implications for introducing these pilots are going to be quite significant."
Under a pilot scheme to be run in three areas, those committing minor offences will either fix the damage they have caused or pay compensation.
For more serious crimes, offenders will be given a suspended prosecution and face court action if they fail to comply with certain conditions.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Saturday 1 November.
