Social care staff shortages 'put lives at risk'

The British Association of Social Workers says that a reliance on temporary staff is jeopardising standards of care and at worst putting vulnerable children at risk.

But some councils say agency cover offers flexibility and experience.

A freedom of information request by Community Care Magazine suggests that in the last year the average amount councils in the UK have spent on agency workers has increased by a third.
