Cardinal Nichols: IS 'barbaric' and 'blasphemous'

Cardinal Vincent Nichols, leader of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales, told the congregation at midnight Mass in Westminster Cathedral that Jesus came as a vulnerable child to teach the world love.

He asked all to pray for those in Syria and Iraq suffering persecution by the radical Islamist group Islamic State - Christians and others - and to help the poor, the lonely and the persecuted.

Cardinal Nichols spoke to the BBC's Caroline Wyatt before the Christmas Eve service.
