Police: 'Zalkalns murdered Alice Gross'

Detectives investigating the murder of schoolgirl Alice Gross said Latvian builder Arnis Zalkalns would have been charged with her murder had he not killed himself.

Detective Superintendent, Carl Mehta said: 'Arnis Zalkalns was responsible for the murder of Alice Gross.' Police said his most likely motive was 'sexual.'

14-year-old Alice's body was found in the River Brent in West London in September 2014, a month after she went missing. The body of Zalkalns was discovered in woodland four days later.

Daniel Sandford reports.
