Police confirm four dead in Bath tipper truck crash

Four people have been killed in a crash involving a tipper truck that hit cars and pedestrians as it travelled down a steep hill in Bath.

The truck struck a number of vehicles and two pedestrians as it travelled down Lansdown Lane in Upper Weston, just after 16:00 GMT, police said.

Ch Supt Caroline Peters from Avon and Somerset Police said the accident happened at a busy time of day and that an air ambulance had been used to take some of the injured to hospital.

She also said that early witness accounts suggested that the driver lost control of the vehicle coming down a hill and tried to avert an accident but was unable to.
