Inspector of Prisons: 'Inmate asked me to help kill rats'

Wormwood Scrubs prison is rat-infested and overcrowded, with some prisoners too frightened to leave their cells, inspectors have said.

The Chief Inspector of Prisons, Peter Clarke told 5 live Daily's Adrian Chiles that he was asked by a prisoner to provide him with a broom to kill rats.

He said: "A prisoner came up to me and said could you please ask the governor to give me a broom, to kill all these rats. He described to me how he killed one of them with a broom handle, just a few days before."
