Tribute to the late Phil Sayer, whose announcements have become a background to our lives

One of the most recognisable, but least-known, voices in Britain has died of cancer, aged 62.

Phil Sayer was the voice of “Mind the Gap” on the London Underground, as well as many other railway line announcements. He was also a radio presenter and voiceover artist.

His family said he passed away peacefully at home on Thursday evening.

As a tribute to Phil, here are some of his most iconic announcements, which have become a background to our lives, without us really noticing.
