New bank notes: Plastic v paper

English bank notes have been made from cotton paper for more than 100 years but a plastic £5 note will start changing hands from 13 September.

It is the first time plastic notes will be used in mass circulation in England, although some have already been issued in Northern Ireland and in Scotland.
