‘One in six roads will need totally rebuilding'

One in six local roads is in such bad condition that they'll need to be repaired or closed within five years, according to a survey of councils across England and Wales.

The annual figures are put together by the Asphalt Industry Alliance. It estimates local authorities will need over £12 billion of funding.

Councillor Peter Fleming tells Today roads in the UK need a huge amount of investment to bring the road network up to scratch.
