Apollo Theatre: 'Suddenly there was screaming'

A section of the roof at the Apollo theatre in London has collapsed, injuring 76 people - seven of them seriously.

Lucy Atherton, who was in the audience with her daughter, told the Today programme that she "heard a kind of crackling noise" shortly before the collapse, which she believed at first to be rain.

She added: "Within seconds of hearing that noise, a huge chunk of plaster just fell from the ceiling… right down into the stalls.

"It went very quiet, and suddenly there was screaming."

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 20 December 2013.
