Pupils support 'inspirational' teacher over shooting

Pupils at a Wolverhampton school are campaigning to stop a physics teacher being sacked after he accidentally shot a pupil.

Richard West from St Peter's Collegiate School was conducting an experiment involving a pellet gun when the accident happened in November.

After Mr West was dismissed following a disciplinary hearing last week, 2000 current and past pupils have joined a Facebook campaign to bring him back.

Former pupil Chris Jones told BBC Radio 5 live's Victoria Derbyshire: "He was truly inspirational. He was by far one of the biggest reasons I carried on in education... I hope he does get his job back."

The school said it would be inappropriate to comment because they were still in the appeal phase of the process.
