New Earley underground reservoir a 'drop in the ocean'

A huge underground water storage tank is taking shape near Reading.

The facility at Earley will hold 14.6m litres of treated drinking water for consumers in the Thames Valley.

Thames Water admitted the facility was still a "drop in the ocean" as it needed to find more locations for water storage to cope with growing demand over the coming decades.

The concrete-lined reservoir will have a cover to be used as parkland when it opens at the end of the year.
