Stockton Heath swan egg theft probed

Police are investigating the suspected theft of a male swan and seven eggs from a nest near a pond in Cheshire.

The eggs were stolen days before they were due to hatch at Ackers Pit, Stockton Heath.

A water bailiff, who wanted to be known only as Mike, said he was "in no doubt" the swan and the eggs had been stolen.

"Obviously no one has stolen [them] for a pet. I can only assume it is for meat; it is to eat."

The female swan was left behind in the theft.
