Birmingham aid worker describes typhoon rescue effort

An aid worker from the UK has described how in the typhoon-hit Philippines "everything is a mess" while food and shelter remain a priority.

Zaid Al-Rawni, from Hall Green in Birmingham, went to the country with Islamic Relief, one of 14 member charities of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).

More than 3,600 died in the typhoon which struck a just over week ago.

Mr Al-Rawni said the sheer scale of the rescue effort was huge and getting to the various islands was very difficult.
