Woman speaks of Birmingham taxi sex assault

A student who was sexually assaulted by a bogus taxi driver while on a night out in Birmingham has spoken out about the ordeal.

Last week, Shakeel Ahmed, 31, from Newton Road, Sparkhill, was jailed for five years after a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

After celebrating a friend's birthday party, the teenager, who was 18 at the time, got into his car, thinking it was a licensed minicab.

The student, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, said she was soon subjected to a serious sexual assault that has left her suffering panic attacks and affected her relationships.

Ahmed was later identified from DNA samples taken from the student's clothing.
