BBC Midlands Today at 50: Birmingham pub bombings

The Birmingham pub bombings is one of the biggest stories to have been covered on BBC Midlands Today, which is marking its 50th anniversary.

Twenty-one people were killed and 182 injured when two bombs exploded at the Mulberry Bush and the Tavern in the Town in November 1974.

A third bomb outside a bank on the Hagley Road failed to explode.

Six people were jailed in 1975 but their convictions were quashed in 1991.

In April this year police said there would be no new inquiry into the bombings after evidence was re-examined.
