General Election 2017: Preet Gill becomes first female Sikh MP

Preet Gill has become the first female Sikh to be elected as an MP as she took the Birmingham Edgbaston constituency.

Bhai Amrik Singh, Chair of the Sikh Federation (UK) said he was delighted.

"She will be a fantastic MP, a credit to the Sikh community and an excellent role model."

Ms Gill replaces Gisela Stuart who announced she was standing down when the snap election was called.
