New Danny Boy version for centenary

A descendant of the man who penned the world-famous song Danny Boy has commissioned a new version to mark its centenary.

The lyrics, set to a traditional Irish tune, were by Fred Weatherly, a lawyer born and brought up in Portishead, near Bristol.

Now Fred's great-nephew Phil Weatherly has enlisted a Bristol band to record a new musical arrangement of the ballad.

The song will be released this St Patrick's Day and is performed by the Bristol-based band Carmina.
