Banned driver jailed after Coventry police chase

A banned driver involved in a high-speed chase through Coventry has been jailed for 12 months and disqualified from driving for three-and-a-half years.

Tony Berrill, 24, of no fixed address, ran red lights and performed dangerous overtaking moves as he careered through the the city in a Seat Leon in October last year.

At one point officers say they were forced to abandon their pursuit for fear he could cause a serious crash.

Central Motorway Police officer Mitch Darby described it as "some of the worst driving I've ever seen".

After admitting charges of dangerous driving and driving while disqualified, Berrill was jailed on Thursday at Warwick Crown Court, sitting in Leamington Spa.
