MP debate on deaths of Rachael Slack and son Auden

The deaths of a mother and her young son at the hands of her former partner in a village in Derbyshire, is to be the subject of Commons debate.

Rachael Slack, 38, and 23-month-old Auden were stabbed to death by Andrew Cairns at their home.

An inquest concluded that police failings contributed to the "unlawful killings" of Ms Slack and Auden in June 2010.

At the heart of the debate secured by Amber Valley MP Nigel Mills, will be the question of whether police powers need to be extended.

John Hess reports for East Midlands Today.
