Derby celebrates 175 years of railway heritage

A ceremony has been held to mark 175 years since the first train from Nottingham arrived in Derby, sparking an industry which continues today.

In Derby there were celebrations to mark its transformation from a small industrial Victorian town into a giant of the modern rail industry

Among costumed staff, David Horne, managing director of East Midlands Trains and Fareed Hussain, Mayor of Derby, underlined the importance of trains to the area.
