Derby Arena: Special guests at velodrome opening

The UK's newest velodrome has opened in Derby - one of just five indoor cycle tracks in the UK.

Built as a legacy facility after the 2012 Olympics, work on the £30m, 5,000-seat Derby Arena began in April 2013.

It boasts a 250m cycle track, 12-court sports hall, a gym, group exercise space and a cafe.

Among those at the opening were Team Sky Boss Sir Dave Brailsford, Dame Sarah Storey, Derby MP Margaret Beckett and Derby County chief executive Sam Rush.

Angela Rafferty reports.
