Doctor 'aghast' at diabetes study

The results of a 12-year research project into type two diabetes in children have left the doctor leading the study "aghast".

Professor Terry Wilkin, director of the EarlyBird Diabetes Research Study in Plymouth, has been testing and monitoring 300 children since 2000.

They were recruited as healthy five year olds, but Prof Wilkin said three had already developed the condition and a further 55 were showing signs of developing it.
