Exeter University drone to scan for ancient Amazonia

A group of archaeologists will use a drone to map out what are thought to be ancient ritual sites deep in the Amazon Rainforest.

The drone, with a special laser attached, has undergone nine months of tests before being deemed ready.

The flights, led by researchers at Exeter University, will begin next month.

Archaeologists hope to understand the scale and activities of populations living thousands of years ago - before the Europeans arrived in the 1490s.
