Lorry blaze forces M25 to close

A section of the M25 in Essex was closed and there were "severe" delays, following a lorry fire which damaged the surface of the carriageway.

A lorry fire closed the M25 in Essex, causing "severe delays" and damaging the surface of the carriageway.

The vehicle was carrying waste including paint, tyres and paper. Several loud explosions were heard.

Emergency services were called to the incident on an anticlockwise section between junctions 27 and 26 for the M11 and Waltham Abbey about 19:30 BST on Thursday.

A Highways Agency spokesman said the road re-opened just after 09:00 BST.
