Explosions heard from car lit by firework in Earls Colne

Amateur video footage has captured a car fire thought to have been started by a lit firework.

Several explosions can be heard from the burning silver Renault Megane, which was set ablaze while parked on the High Street in Earls Colne, Essex, on Saturday.

Fierce heat from the blaze shattered windows in neighbouring buildings and a family had to be evacuated from an upstairs flat.

Colin Abbott, owner of ABCO Insurance Services, said: "The flames were as high as the roof of the building."

Police and fire service believe the fire may have been started deliberately by a firework being placed in the car's exhaust pipe.
