Flooding leaves cars stranded in Ongar and elsewhere in Essex

Drivers have been left stranded and roads have been blocked for hours following heavy rainfall in Essex.

The county's fire service said it dealt with 264 calls about flooding between 00:00 BST and 13:30, mostly around Brentwood, Chelmsford, Colchester, Maldon, Ongar, Roxwell and South Woodham Ferrers.

One car was filmed after getting stuck in Stondon Road, Ongar, where deep flooding made the road impassable.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for rain for Thursday afternoon and evening, with further thunderstorms expected in parts of Essex.
