Wickford family's hamster has leg amputated

A family's pet hamster which went missing has undergone a "lifesaving" operation to have one of its legs amputated.

Lavender the hamster was found behind a cooker after it had gone missing from its Wickford home.

It had injured one of its legs and had to undergo surgery at Cherrydown Vets in Basildon.

The four-month-old is "recovering well".
