D'Oliveira 'quiet man' of cricket

Former Worcestershire county cricketer Damian D'Oliveira has talked publicly for the first time about his father, former England batsman Basil D'Oliveira, who died on Friday.

His father's selection on the 1968 tour of South Africa led to a political storm and sporting isolation for the host nation.

Despite this Damian D'Oliveira said his father was a "man of few words, who did his talking on the field".

The son described his father as a very private man who kept his family out of the public eye.

Speaking to BBC Midlands Today's Nick Owen at Worcestershire's New Road ground, Damian D'Oliveira said his father loved playing for the club.
