Broadstairs care homes closed at short notice

Two care homes in an east Kent town have been ordered by inspectors to close with immediate effect.

The Care Quality Commission said it needed to take urgent action to keep residents at Fairfield Manor and Woodlands, in Broadstairs, safe.

It found a lack of suitably skilled staff and poor leadership. However, staff and relatives said the homes had not been given enough time to turn things around.

BBC South East Today's Simon Jones spoke to relatives Cesarina Ward, Brian Dennis, Roy Davies, and Kate Knill, along with Andy Prendergast of the GMB union.
