South Africa crash footballer George Howard 'lucky to survive'
A former Gillingham FC footballer who spent 17 days in a coma after a car crash in South Africa says he feels lucky to have survived.
George Howard, who was a goalkeeper at the club, sustained a fractured skull and had three bleeds in the brain after he was thrown out of a van that hit a pothole while on holiday.
Mr Howard is keen to get back on the pitch as soon as possible, but says doctors told him that he will have to wait nine months for surgery to put a plate in his skull.
BBC South East Today's Simon Jones spoke to Mr Howard, and Danny Kedwell from Gillingham FC.
