Matthew Wootton: Green Party activist feared drowned
A leading member of the Green Party has been named as one member of an eight-person crew feared drowned in a schooner which set sail from New Zealand three weeks ago.
Matthew Wootton, from Lancaster, was on the final leg of a three year eco-friendly round the world trip,
Mr Wootton refused to fly for environmental reasons. He was crossing the Pacific on board a 70ft (21.2m) wooden schooner, which the authorities in New Zealand now believe has sunk in a storm.
He is credited by the party for its rebranding in 2004.
