Open fires banned at Preston pub

A Grade II-listed pub in Preston has been told it can no longer have open log fires as it is in a smokeless zone.

The Black Horse on Orchard Street, which dates back to 1898, has been ordered to stop burning wood in the three Victorian fireplaces by the city council.

Landlord Graham Rowson said: "What do you want, gas fires and electric bars? No, you want natural fires."

Mick Lovatt, director of environment at Preston City Council said Mr Rowson could "buy some smokeless logs" or "fit a wood burning stove".
