Burnley's dry dock on Liverpool and Leeds canal restored

Burnley's only dry dock which has been derelict for more than 50 years is open again after two semi-retired couples restored it.

The Bank Hall dry dock on the Leeds and Liverpool canal was once the heart of the region's canal transportation network but it fell into ruin after the colliery closed.

Les and Angela White and Brian Denison and Jane Garnett spent 12 months restoring it so they could paint and repair canal boats on it.

Mr White said: "It was six foot deep in mud, dirt, shopping trolleys, tyres everything you could imagine was in the bottom."
