Heckmondwike water plant blaze tackled

A blaze at a water treatment works in West Yorkshire has been brought under control by firefighters.

A large amount of plastic in a disused tank caught fire at the Yorkshire Water plant on Smithies Lane, Heckmondwike, at about 19:00 BST on Wednesday.

Five crews dealt with the fire, which caused traffic disruption.

A fire service spokesman said it had received a large amount of 999 calls from people who had seen a plume of black smoke in the sky.
