Leicestershire veterans remember Britain's first jet fighter
Leicestershire veterans have been remembering Britain's first jet fighter, which flew operationally for the first time 70 years ago.
The Gloster Meteor used engines first developed in Lutterworth and pioneered by engineer Sir Frank Whittle.
Veterans John Shaw and Max Daetwyler both worked on the jet engines at the old Ladywood works in Lutterworth and later at a site in Whetstone.
