Skegness in the face of economic ruin during WW1

The Lincolnshire seaside town of Skegness faced the prospect of economic ruin as Britain declared war on Germany.

The trains which had ferried tourists now carried troop to the front.

In an effort to stop the town closing down, the council said the resort could be used to billet thousands of soldiers.
