Tube 150th anniversary: In praise of the silver stairway

Perhaps the single biggest success of the Tube over the last 150 years is the part you never think about, the thing that helps over a billion people a year get in and out of the London Underground network.

BBC London's Robin Punt celebrates the humble escalator, a moving staircase that at Waterloo station alone carries 82m passengers a year.
