Call to save purpose-built sheltered housing for the elderly

Residents have called for a central London council to save the first purpose-built sheltered housing for the elderly in the capital.

The unit in Streatham, which houses 65 people in blocks linked by walkways and gardens, is under threat of being sold off.

Lambeth Council says it would cost too much to upgrade, and the residents will be given new purpose-built accommodation.

BBC London's Alice Bhandhukravi spoke to residents Mary Wade, Richard Newman, Linda Lee and councillor Jim Dixon, from Lambeth Council.
