Mayor of London wants to promote apprentice route

More than 40,000 young people are beginning apprenticeships in London - double the number compared to 2010, according to the Mayor of London.

Following A-level results day, Boris Johnson's office said it was keen to promote learning on the job as an alternative to university.

BBC London's education correspondent Marc Ashdown spoke to IBM apprentice Jack Lomas, Elizabeth Bonfield from Excellence, Achievement and Learning and The Apprentice winner Tim Campbell.
