Russell Square stabbing victims 'selected at random'

The victims of a knife attack in London's Russell Square were "selected at random", the Metropolitan Police has said.

One woman died and five others were injured following the attack on Wednesday.

Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley spoke outside Scotland Yard to confirm that the murdered woman, thought to be in her 60s, was an American national.

He said it is believed to have been a spontaneous attack "triggered by mental health issues".
