Morphine-patch arrest man, 83, will not face charge

An 83-year-old man who was locked up for seven hours after giving his wife a painkiller patch at her care home is to face no further charge.

Walter Crompton, from Manchester, was arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance when his wife Eileen was given the morphine plaster for her arthritis.

He was also banned from visiting her unless supervised, after Allendale Residential Home in Blackley told social services.

The home said it had followed safeguarding procedures.
